Application Process/Form

Follow Home of My Own of WNY on Facebook and check our website regularly. If/when an apartment is about to become available, a notification and application date will be posted on both.

The application process begins with completing an updated Potential Resident Survey.

Potential Resident Surveys may be submitted at any time of the year, so it is on file, but that does not guarantee anyone an apartment, or put you at the top of any list when an apartment becomes available. It’s just good to have that out of the way prior to an opening, as it requires time to complete.

If you have not completed the survey, please submit it as soon as possible.

If it has been a while since your survey was completed, and/or the details and life circumstances of the potential tenant have changed since the last survey was completed, please update prior to moving to the next step in the application process.

When the application process has opened according to the date posted on our website and Facebook page, please complete the quick application form below and submit it. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis once the process has opened.

Those who have completed the previous steps and are among the early applicants will be contacted to arrange a call/meeting with a Home of My Own of WNY representative/board member.

This meeting is to review the Potential Resident Survey, provide updates regarding availability, and discuss the Home of My Own of WNY property, community, and how it’s different than other apartments and/or certified housing placements in WNY.

IMPORTANT

Because this is independent apartment living, it will also serve as a discussion about the applicant’s skills and abilities, as well as giving the potential tenant (and/or family) an opportunity to share information about themselves and their lifestyle that may be pertinent to living independently among their peers in a Home of My Own of WNY apartment. 

Safety – Home of My Own of WNY reserves the right to put the safety of their current tenants, as well as the potential tenant, FIRST. This includes denying the application of a potential tenant that may not be safely able to live independently.

Potential tenants (and/or family) will have an opportunity to ask questions regarding Home of My Own of WNY, the property or property management company.

Once the above steps are complete, potential tenants (and/or family) will be contacted via email from Home of My Own of WNY regarding next steps, if any. This email will detail where the potential tenant stands in the process and can expect one of the following:

1. Notification stating applicant has moved to the next step in the process and will receive a link to the application provided by the Property Management Company – Standard Property Management. This is the official apartment credit application through the property management company.  Note: The property management company has a required nonrefundable fee to process the apartment credit application which includes necessary credit and background checks for applicants and co-applicants/co-signors. From there, the property management company will finalize the process directly with the potential tenant.
2. Notification stating the available apartment(s) have been filled (or are currently in process of being filled) at this time, but the potential tenant will be contacted should something fall through in the very short term. Otherwise, we will recommend the potential tenant keep a close watch on the website for a notification that the application process has reopened.
3. Notification that the potential tenant will not be moving forward in the application process at this time. The decision may be based on any number factors discussed throughout the application process.
